DAYTON, Ohio, January 29, 2008 – CON/STEEL Tilt-Up Systems®, which specializes in the structural design of concrete tilt-up buildings, was recently honored with three Tilt-Up Achievement Awards from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA). With these awards, CON/STEEL has received 20 honors from the organization since 2000.

All of the awards, Two Waterstone Place, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and 3949 Forest Parkway, came in the office category. Two Waterstone Place, which is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, was built by CON/STEEL Alliance member Miller-Valentine Group and serves as their company’s local office. Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, located in Frederick, Md. was built by CON/STEEL Alliance member Morgan-Keller, Inc. and consolidated the company’s east coast operations. 3949 Forest Parkway, located in North Tonawanda, N.Y., was built by CON/STEEL Alliance member Calamar Construction and serves as their company’s corporate headquarters.

CON/STEEL Tilt-Up Systems®, a division of Dayton-based architectural and engineering firm LJB Inc., was presented these prestigious awards Jan. 24, at the 2008 TCA annual meeting and awards breakfast in Las Vegas during the annual World of Concrete convention.

Project Details:

Two Waterstone Place combines the company's two Cincinnati area offices into one location. To meet sustainable design goals, tilt-up construction materials were selected, which have an impressive economic-cycle and offer long-term durability. Sustainable design practices included geothermal cooling, vegetative swales to collect run-off water, an energy-recovery HVAC system and preservation of existing vegetated areas. To create a unique look, two types of post-applied precast stone were used, as well as two different shades of paint in earth tone colors.

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage has more than 300,000 square feet of office space on three floors, making it one of the largest multi-story tilt-up office structures in history. This project encompasses three separate tilt-up buildings that are interconnected by circular atriums, sited at 30 degree angles to each other. To create an attractive exterior, the building incorporates a number of architectural details that demanded a high level of craftsmanship.

The owner of 30,578-square-foot 3949 Forest Parkway wanted a signature building that would be suitable for corporate headquarters. Tilt-Up, already a staple in this business park, was selected because of the energy efficiency, durability and architectural variety that method provides. Using a combination of 24,000 embedded thin bricks, this one-story office building is accented by a curved glass entryway. Constructed in only 270 days, the use of a higher strength concrete and admixtures resulted in faster set time and the necessary strength required for lifting during the harsh winter months.
